This month (14^th-22^d March 2016) a 59^th session of the CND (Commission on Narcotic Drugs) was held in Vienna. At this session the broad issues drug abuse were discussed (health, social, security, educational, and other factors), and the wide range of possible solutions. In addition, the necessary preparations for the UNGASS 2016 in New York were made, the special session of the UN General Assembly which will be held on April 19^th to 21^st , and which will discuss the general issue of abuse of narcotics and other related problems, and make some recommendations for the future. From the representatives from Stijena in Vienna was the president of our association, Zoran Jelić. The program was rich, there were over 70 special meetings (side events) with a variety of subjects, including more than 30 different exhibitors (who offered books, brochures, manuals, videos, …). Our representative participated in a side event entitled ” Insight into the different models of recovery ”, organized by the Turkish Green Crescent organization, RUN and Stijena. Various options that are offered to people in the recovery process were identified, and Zoran Jelić emphasized the importance of hope in the recovery and opportunities being offered, as well as personal commitment to human factors (attitude of the heart) to help people with addiction problems. This approach is based on the fact that recovery is possible, and that there is hope. In addition, posters that promote recovery were exposed in Vienna, as seen in the photos. Since last year Stijena has a special status in ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council of the UN), which gives us as an association additional credibility and new opportunities in the field of international cooperation. Also, as a member of the RUN network we have the opportunity to participate in the growing awareness of the world public that recovery is possible, and that the phrase ” once an addict always an addict ” has no basis in reality. In the end, we want to emphasize that we are proud that as a member of RUN network we participated in a joint statement on the subject of recovery, and the chairman of RUN, our collaborator and friend, Boro Goić, at the invitation of UNODC and WHO had the opportunity to speak to the theme of recovery in the company of significant names, such as Michael Botticelli, Yury Fedotov, Gilberto Gerra, … We are happy because we can be a part of this, and that the voice of the recovery and hope is increasingly heard.
